Proper walking technique - Friday, July 11
The right walking technique can maximize performance and minimize aches and pains. Try these tips:
Stand tall. Keep your shoulders back, head high, abdominal muscles gently pulled in, and pelvis slightly tucked under.
Think heel toe. Roll through the heel to the ball of your foot, and then push off with your toes.
Avoid over-striding. If you increase speed, take more steps per minute instead of longer strides. This enables a powerful push off your back foot to propel you forward.
Don’t forget your arms. Bend your elbows at a right angle and keep them close to your sides; swing your arms from the shoulder. Allow your torso to twist naturally with each step.
Keep technique in mind as you walk 30 minutes a day, five days a week.
