Support, friendship, motivation, safety, accountability — a walking group has big rewards. Here’s how to get started and keep it going:

  • Spread the word. Talk to coworkers, family, friends, and neighbors. Consider posting fliers where other walkers are likely to be (such as parks, recreation centers, or malls).

  • Work out the details. As a group, discuss how often, how long or far, how fast, whether to walk indoors or outdoors, routes, and meeting places.

  • Keep the momentum going. Choose a name for your group, enter charity events, and set group goals. Find fun and creative ways to maintain motivation.

Walking 30 minutes a day, five days a week is a great health goal. Camaraderie and shared success can help you achieve it.

CEO George C. Halvorson discusses the gift of walking in this video. Share it with your colleagues, friends, family, and neighbors.
